This film provides examples of: Action Girl: Hu-Li is a deadly martial artist and manages to kick Carter in the face a few times.
Downplayed with Isabella in the second film because she doesn't have much chance as Hu Li shot her in the shoulder.
Bad-Guy Bar: The bar that Lee and Carter go to are owned by the triads.
Bash Brothers: Both Lee and Carter start to demonstrate this where Carter's hand-to-hand skills have notably jumped up about 10 grades.

Borrowed Catchphrase: Lee says "Do you understand the words that are coming out of my mouth!?" when he and Carter were on the boat, a line said by Carter in the first film.
Both Sides Have a Point: Lee and Carter have an argument after getting dressed after being stripped butt-naked about how things went down at the massage parlor. Lee is correct that Carter should've listened to him and stay seated while he went to get backup and not go up to Ricky Tan and challenge him, and they would've avoided all trouble. However, Carter also isn't wrong that Lee lied to him about them going to a party at the bar, but are actually undercover on an assignment and he didn't tell him anything about it, and he only wanted to go on a vacation and not get caught up in another crime-lord busting assignment.
The Dragon: Hu-Li to Ricky Tan.
Follow That Car: Carter orders the taxi driver to follow the car. The driver doesn't move and keeps speaking Chinese to him (with no subtitles for non-Chinese-speaking viewers). After a few back-and-forth exchanges, Carter slips him some money and the driver says, in English, "Now you're speaking my language" and steps on the gas.

Ms. Fanservice: Isabella, especially in her scene stripping down in her Black Bra and Panties.
Naked People Are Funny: Lee and Carter get stripped naked and forced to run back to the police station with only a trash can lid and newspaper as their coverings to get changed.
Pocket Protector: During Carter's fight with Hu-Li, he gets stabbed in the chest by her spearing it, but was revealed to be saved by the wad of the counterfeit bills he had in his jacket's breast pocket.Carter: Thank you, Benjamin (kisses dollars).
Racial Face Blindness: After hitting Lee by mistake in the massage parlor fight, Carter, says "All y'all look alike!"

One of the basic facts of urban mass transportation operations is that the need for rolling stock is far greater during the morning and evening rush hours on weekdays than at any other time. For that reason, any system which has sufficient rolling stock to meet the weekday rush-hour needs of its customers must have a substantial amount of equipment standing idle at other times, as well as drivers and other personnel being paid when there is little for them to do. To relieve this inefficient and uneconomical situation, quite a number of cities have offered incidental charter service using this idle equipment and personnel during the hours when the same are not needed for regularly scheduled runs. Among the cities so doing are Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Alameda, Tacoma, Detroit and Dallas.
Gen. GONZALEZ GONZALEZ: [subtitles] Chavez has Cubanized, or is trying to Cubanize, Venezuela. Hes created an image of differences and divisions among the population, making lower-class people believe that what they dont have was taken away by the upper classes.
TEACHER: [subtitles] Since Chavez came into power, kids can stay at school all day from 8:00 in the morning until 3:00 in the afternoon. In addition, they give them breakfast, lunch and a snack.
Pres. HUGO CHAVEZ: [subtitles] I cannot make conclusions about the investigation because its not the role of the executive power directly. But I can tell you, for example, in looking for answers, but firm answers, the sad truth is there have not been any convictions for those crimes.
TINKARI GOSWAMI: [subtitles] The news of so many people dying at the Pentagon, so many people in America, the news that such a serious event took place, it has to reach places where newspapers arent available.
AMIT PRADHAN: [subtitles] I try to portray the facts about bin Laden to people who may not know about him. Is he really this vicious terrorist or just a devout Muslim? I just want to make them understand that.
AMIT PRADHAN: [as bin Laden] [subtitles] Our long struggle to liberate all Muslims from the infidels will continue for many years to come. But always remember one thing. Empowering jihad is every Muslims sacred duty. And at the right time, you will strengthen my powerful jihad.
[voice-over] Its close to midnight, and the musicians start to play. They wont stop for another three-and-a-half hours. To the thousands who filled the streets, the late hour didnt seem to matter, even to the many children in the crowd.
GIRL IN AUDIENCE: [subtitles] This jatra showed bin Laden as a different man, a man concerned for the poor and for people who need him. Now I feel like Ive seen a more human side of bin Laden.
RENATA SIMONE: It took us just an hour of travel across the Pearl River delta to reach Guandong province. This is a different world. Here people live and work in close proximity to animals, domestic and wild.
RENATA SIMONE: This is rush hour that day in Hong Kong. The economic and human impact of SARS has been devastating. This apartment complex had been hit the hardest. More than 320 people living here got sick from the virus, 42 died. It was one of the few places where I felt at risk. Most of the cases were in this building. Mr. Tsang-Kam-On was the only person who would talk to us.
SIMON YEUNG: [subtitles] When the medication could not relieve my suffering, I thought I was going to die. At the same time, I was struggling emotionally. As a priest, I know death is not a negative thing, but I kept struggling.
The aim of the present paper is to explore the difficulties translators have to face when translating discourse markers in general, and reformulation markers in particular. In the first part of the paper I will attempt to answer the question of why discourse markers are notoriously difficult to translate. Next, I will look at some of the genre-specific features pertaining to the translation of scripted discourse and subtitles. In the second part of the paper, after providing an overview of previous research into reformulation and reformulation markers, I will present the results of a case study of the translation of the English reformulation markers I mean and actually into Hungarian. By way of concluding, I will argue that a wider repertoire of translation strategies is needed in order to achieve dynamic equivalence in the target text.
This paper proposes to analyse ironic utterances in the British TV series Downton Abbey (Season One) by comparing the English source text (ST) irony found in the script of the film to its subtitled variant of the Hungarian target text (TT). First the literature of the domain is surveyed in order to draw attention to the difficulty of rendering irony in audiovisual subtitles which emphasises that, as a multidisciplinary area, it involves not only audio and visual, but also verbal and non-verbal factors. This section is followed by a brief survey of irony theories highlighting the incongruence factor of irony, which also needs to be rendered in the TT After offering an outline of the story, several examples of ironic utterances are discussed, applying the dynamic equivalence method. 041b061a72
